A Finnish House Reimagining the Rituals of Scent and Skin

Created in Finland, Maison des Sophys brings fragrance, skincare and wellbeing together through a quieter vision of luxury, shaped by ancient Greek wisdom, Nordic precision and contemporary science.

In a beauty market often shaped by constant novelty, Maison des Sophys is taking a more measured path. The Finnish House brings fragrance, skincare and wellbeing together through a shared belief: beauty should be created with knowledge, care and a clear sense of purpose.

Maison des Sophys grew from years of experience across skincare, product development, production and international brand building. Anu Ruohosto, CEO and Founder, together with Janne Ruohosto and Hendrick Henningson, brought complementary areas of expertise to the same table. Their ambition was not simply to introduce more products. It was to create a House with a distinct point of view and the patience to build for the long term.

From the outset, the structure of the business was deliberate. Maison des Sophys was conceived as the parent House: the place where the founding vision, standards and expertise come together. Scentsophy and Skinsophy were developed as distinct brand worlds beneath it, each able to speak in its own language while remaining connected to the same philosophy.

A house created with intention

That intention begins with a different understanding of luxury. For Maison des Sophys, luxury is not defined by excess, speed or visibility. It is found in the quality of what is made, the honesty behind it and the way a product becomes part of a person’s life.

This perspective reflects a wider change in the way people relate to beauty. Many are looking beyond complicated routines and passing claims. They want to understand what they choose, where it comes from and why it deserves a place in their daily rituals. They value substance over spectacle and discernment over accumulation.

That understanding shapes more than communication. It informs how ideas are assessed, how formulas are developed, how materials are chosen and how each experience is presented. Nothing should exist simply to follow a season. Every decision should contribute to a clear and lasting whole.

True luxury is not defined by excess, but by authenticity, quality and the emotions that remain.

The meaning of Sophys

The name Maison des Sophys draws inspiration from sophia, the ancient Greek word for wisdom. Within the House, wisdom is not treated as nostalgia. It is a way of bringing inherited knowledge into conversation with contemporary expertise.

Ancient Greek beauty and fragrance traditions understood scent, botanical materials and personal care as elements of ritual and everyday life. The Nordic perspective introduces clarity, restraint and precision. Contemporary science provides the means to examine ingredients, formulations and processes with greater care.

Maison des Sophys is shaped by the meeting of these influences. It does not seek to recreate the past or use heritage as decoration. Instead, it considers what remains meaningful and how that knowledge can be interpreted responsibly for the present.

Four values provide the foundation for this approach. Purity brings focus and respect for what is essential. Authenticity requires honesty about ingredients, processes and promises. Heritage gives the House a sense of continuity beyond trends. Wisdom ensures that knowledge and purpose remain present in every stage of creation.

One Maison, two distinct expressions

The Maison is the home of Scentsophy and Skinsophy. Two distinct brands with their own identities, areas of expertise and sensory languages. One is centred on scent; the other on skin. Both are guided by the same values of purity, authenticity, heritage and wisdom.

This shared foundation allows fragrance and skincare to be understood not as unrelated categories, but as two intimate forms of care. Rituals of scent. Rituals of skin.

The distinction between the two brands is important. Scentsophy is not simply the fragrance expression of Skinsophy, nor is Skinsophy an extension of a perfume house. Each is being built with its own creative codes, expertise and relationship with the person who experiences it. The role of Maison des Sophys is to give both brands a coherent origin and a common standard of care.

Scentsophy, a the ritual of scent

Scentsophy explores fragrance at the meeting point of composition and emotion. Scent is molecular in its construction, yet profoundly personal in the way it is experienced. It can recall a place, become attached to a period of life or quietly shape how a moment is remembered.

Drawing on ancient Greek beauty and fragrance traditions, Scentsophy reinterprets their knowledge, materials and rituals through a modern Nordic perspective. The intention is not to reproduce an ancient formula, but to recognise the lasting value of ritual, natural materials and considered composition.

This approach leaves room for both natural materials and the precision of modern fragrance development. What matters is not the origin story of one ingredient in isolation, but the quality, balance and emotional character of the finished composition.

In this context, perfume is more than a finishing touch. It becomes part of presence and identity: a private ritual whose meaning develops through the person who wears it.

Skinsophy, a the ritual of skin

Skinsophy begins with a different kind of complexity: the skin itself. Rather than approaching skin as a surface to be corrected, the brand considers it as a living system with natural functions and changing needs.

Its philosophy brings together Nordic purity, carefully selected ingredients and a clear purpose for every formula. The focus is not on making routines longer, but on creating thoughtful skincare that supports the natural needs of the skin without unnecessary complexity.

Skinsophy does not present ageing as something to be fought or perfection as a realistic destination. Its focus is a more intelligent and respectful relationship with the skin, understanding its condition, supporting its natural functions and choosing care that can remain relevant as those needs change.

Less, but better.

This simplicity is not an absence of thought. It is the result of it. By asking what the skin genuinely needs, Skinsophy places care, clarity and respect ahead of novelty.

Nature, understood with care

Across both brands, nature is approached with respect, but never reduced to a decorative story. Botanical materials are complex. Their role depends on how they are selected, combined and used within a complete composition.

This is why Maison des Sophys looks beyond the idea of a single celebrated ingredient. In perfumery, a material gains character through its relationship with the rest of the composition. In skincare, a formula must be understood as a whole, with each element chosen for a reason.

The result is a considered approach to innovation: knowledgeable without becoming inaccessible and precise without losing sight of the human experience for which each product is created.

The House brings product development and production into dialogue with strategy, design and sensory experience. This broader view is essential because a formula, a fragrance, its packaging and the way it is introduced all contribute to the same relationship of trust. The story cannot promise more than the product can support, and the product should never be reduced to a marketing story.

Created for people who value substance

Maison des Sophys is created for people who have moved beyond luxury as display and now seek luxury as substance. They are curious about ingredients and origin, attentive to craftsmanship and less persuaded by noise, celebrity or constant novelty.

They choose carefully because they expect the objects and rituals in their lives to respect their intelligence. For them, beauty is not a performance for others. It is a personal practice shaped by quality, presence and the quiet pleasure of something well made.

Rooted in Finland, international in outlook

Maison des Sophys is rooted in Finland, where simplicity, functionality and respect for nature have long shaped the culture of design and making. Its Nordic identity is expressed through restraint, thoughtful craftsmanship and attention to what is essential.

Yet the House was never conceived as geographically narrow. The team behind it brings experience across disciplines and markets, while its cultural references reach from Finland to the ancient Mediterranean. This international outlook allows the Maison to remain grounded in its origins without being limited by them.

Its international ambition is therefore based on coherence rather than expansion for its own sake. Wherever the Maison is encountered, the same principles should be recognisable: clarity in what is said, integrity in what is made and refinement that never becomes distant.

A quieter vision of luxury

Maison des Sophys belongs to a more conscious expression of luxury: one that values craftsmanship over display, knowledge over unsupported promises and lasting relevance over the pressure to be constantly new.

Through Scentsophy and Skinsophy, the House is creating two different experiences from one coherent philosophy. One considers the relationship between scent, memory and identity. The other begins with the relationship between formulation, care and the natural intelligence of the skin.

Building the business as a House provides room for these brands to grow without losing their relationship to one another. It also creates a consistent foundation for future products and experiences in beauty, fragrance and wellbeing, always guided by the same standards rather than by the pressure to diversify quickly.

Together, they express what Maison des Sophys stands for beauty with substance, created with integrity and designed to remain meaningful over time.
